kittelson

Professor of Biostatistics, Colorado School of Public Health

Professor John Kittelson has a PhD in statistics and over 25 years of experience as a collaborative biostatistician in clinical trials. Dr. Kittelson is interested in the statistical foundations of biomedical research, particularly as they manifest in clinical trials. He has particular interest in assuring effective biostatistical leadership in the design and conduct of important clinical trials to inform clinical practice. Dr. Kittelson has statistical research expertise and interest in the methodologic aspects of clinical trial design and analysis with particular emphasis on statistical methods related to monitoring clinical trials (“group sequential” trial designs).

Dr. Kittelson is widely published in both the statistics and applied literature. He presents short courses and invited lectures on the design and monitoring of clinical trials. Current active statistics research projects include statistical methods for the design and analysis of trials with bivariate endpoints that incorporate mechanistic and clinical endpoints into bivariate decisions in order to improve trial efficiency and scientific integrity.

Currently, Dr. Kittelson is the lead trial statistician on several NIH and industry-sponsored randomized-controlled clinical trials. Dr. Kittelson also serves on trial monitoring boards for several local and industry-sponsored trials, and has served as an appointed member on the FDA Advisory Committee for Reproductive Health Drugs.
